Early Intervention Service for Families With Children With Disabilities or Developmental Delays
Get Involved

Why Early Intervention?

Research has shown that children’s earliest experiences play a critical role in brain development. Those experiences literally shape how the brain forms, establishing either a sturdy or fragile foundation for all the development and behavior that follows.

Home and Community Based Early Intervention Services

Developmental Therapy is provided by degreed Early Interventionists in accordance with the Individual Family Service Plan in the families’ homes or through a teleconferencing platform. All our staff have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree while many staff hold advanced degrees. MDC focuses on the important role of the family as the decision-maker and guide for their child’s development and learning.

The Michael Dunn Center (MDC) Home and Community Based Early Intervention service is a voluntary educational program for families with children birth to five years of age with disabilities or developmental delays implemented through a contract with the Department of Disability and Aging. These services are offered in Roane County, Morgan County, Scott County, Campbell County and Cumberland County.

Michael Dunn Center Early Intervention groups meet monthly for socialization events in the community where EI children and their caregivers interact with one another to build a supportive community and network. TEIS Service Coordinators often attend these events as well to encourage team building.
